Message from the Chairman

The 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27), which was held in Egypt in 2022, aims to keep the global temperature rise below 1.5C and calls for the active adoption of carbon reduction technologies and measures to cope with the increasing pace of climate change. In response to the impact of climate change and international interest in sustainability, the Financial Supervisory Commission launched the “Sustainable Development Roadmap" in January last year. Since last year, the Board of Directors has been overseeing the "GHG Inventory and Verification" schedule quarterly, which is not only earlier than the planning of the path map, but includes a company-wide greenhouse gas inventory in 2022 with the inventory data being verified by cooperative partners. In addition, the Financial Management Council launched the “Green Finance Action Plan 3.0” in September last year to continue promoting sustainable development and climate change in the financial markets and the industry as a whole, and to enhance the financial sector's climate resilience. Under the oath of international trends and domestic policies, we are well aware of the impact we have on our markets as a financial industry, and the responsibility to promote sustainable development and support the net zero transition.

In 2022, in addition to the promotion of greenhouse gas inventory, the Company has also established a TCFD mechanism for disclosure of climate-related financial information to disclose four management information, which are governance, strategy, risk management, indicators, and objectives. It has also formulated internal norms and mechanisms to regularly review and ensure the compliance with the “Guidance on Climate-Related Risk and Financial Disclosure of Insurance Industry”. Especially in the area of external, working with the Life Insurance Association to develop a practice manual on climate-related financial disclosure for the domestic insurance industry to enhance the quality and transparency of disclosure and operational resilience; while in corporate governance, we have obtained 6~20% of the stock exchange corporate governance evaluation, and won extra points in the sustainable investment affirmation. In the aspect of information security, the Company’s whole system has passed the verification of ISO27001: 2013 Information Management System (ISMS); and the verification of British Standards Institution BSI 10012: 2017 Personal Information Management System (PIMS) ; with respect to social responsibility, the company's micro insurance has been praised by the FSC for eight consecutive years, and was awarded the "Business Excellence Award" and the "Care Award for Physical and Mental Disabilities" in 2022 by providing basic insurance protection for elderly people with small old-age insurance, and also receives the “Performance Excellence Award” from FSC in aging insurance competition. Moreover, the Company has also newly added and optimized its online functions, with new contract action coverage rate reached by 97.96%. Heeded the call of the Government's efforts to support the arts and culture industry, we also sponsor the Taiwan Lantern Festival and the exhibition of artists' works in 2023.
