2022 Goals and Achievements
    • Continue to obtain ISO14064 greenhouse gas inventory verification, and set the goal of saving 1% of carbon emissions every year.
    • Obtain the ISO14064 greenhouse gas inventory verification in 2022, and the carbon emissions of the inventory results will be reduced by 3% compared with the previous year.
2023 Goals
    • Due to the company’s expansion of the inventory of greenhouse gas data in the province’s bases, it will be changed to 2022 as the benchmark, and the total carbon emissions will be reduced by 3% by 2024.
Environmental policy and goals
Promotion of e-documents
In line with the international ESG trend and the pursuit of sustainable development of enterprises, and response to the “Green Finance Action Plan 2.0" promoted by the FSC, the financial institutions are encouraged to develop and innovate green financial products or services to meet the financial needs of enterprises and investors pursuing the low-carbon transformation and sustainable development. By promoting e-documents, Mercuries Life Insurance significantly increases the use of electronic policies. In 2022, the "Like Tiger with Electronics" promotion activity was launched. During the activity, when the policyholders apply for a new contract electronic policy, electronic form, automatic trading service and use the automatic specific services (policy loan, withdrawal, conversion, and subscription), the points will be accumulated if they meet the requirements, and the points will be converted into lucky draw opportunities for policyholders. In addition, an e-document promotion team was set up, consisting of the Head Office and front-line service personnel, to respond to the operation problems of the policyholder at the first moment, assist in promoting a number of e-services and integrate channels to give feedback to customers' opinions. Customer problems can be responded to and dealt with by service personnel the first time. Customer opinions can also be used as suggestions for e-service optimization to improve the customer experience.

Our new contract mobile coverage rate reached 97.96% in 2022 to reduce the use of about 4.75 million pieces of paper, and indeed decrease the consumption of natural resources. In addition, the proportion of e-policy applications for new contracts of personal insurance and travel insurance FPA (TA) also increased year by year, reaching 32.50% and 86.40% in 2022 respectively.
The policyholder who wishes to pay their premiums through automatic transfer can agree on Electronic Direct Debit Authorization(eDDA) at the time of mobile insurance and verify their automatic transfer authorization through a chip financial card or e-bank. This will not only improve administrative efficiency, but also effectively reduce the use of two copies of the authorization form on paper, so as to achieve the goal of low-carbon operation.

For the insurance renewal in 2022, the number of premiums paid by automatic transfer accounted for 50.54% of the entire effective policies, and the number of insurance premiums agreed to be paid by credit card accounted for 31.48% of the entire effective policies. In total, the proportion of insurance premiums paid by automatic (electronic) payment services was about 82.02% of the entire effective policies.
Energy Saving Plan

Operating place electricity consumption is the main source of carbon emissions in the life insurance industry. In order to reduce the impact of the operation on the environment and provide a healthier office environment for employees, by saving internal resources, Mercuries Life Insurance reduced energy consumption and environmental pollution. We also reduced the carbon emissions by continuously replacing and cleaning the equipment and using energy-saving devices, such as regularly cleaning main air conditioners, and gradually updating old air conditioner equipment to improve efficiency. At the same time, the new workplace also continues to replace energy-saving lamps and lanterns, and develops different energy-saving ways through parallel technology and management to reduce the excessive use of environmental resources.

Green buildings

Energy saving settings related to green buildings, such as the Neihu enterprise headquarters building, have obtained the "EEWH", and completed the installation of solar photovoltaic panel energy saving equipment. Assuming that the average daily production of 2.5 degrees /KW in northern part of the country, it is expected to provide about 12,154.5 degrees of solar energy per year, with a reduction of 2.3 tons of CO2 per 1KW, and equivalent to a carbon reduction of 30.6 tons; On the other hand, the Wenxin Building in Taichung uses green building materials, such as double glazing and heat-insulating paper and increasing green space, to show an active action of participating in environmental greening and energy saving. Provided that the southern region can generate 3 KWH /KW per day on average, it is expected to provide about 17,509.05 KWH of solar energy per year, which is converted to a reduction of 2.3 tons of CO2 per 1KW. Therefore, it is equivalent to a carbon reduction of 36.8 tons, which can fully supply the electricity needed for landscape of the building.

Greenhouse Gas and Energy Management
Energy Use
In 2022, the Company purchased a new headquarters building, which is equipped with energy-saving features that surpass those of the old building, effectively achieving carbon reduction goals. Furthermore, considering the energy consumption intensity per unit area of the Company's total space, the overall energy usage in 2022 is better than that in 2021. The company will continue to implement various energy-saving measures to achieve the planned carbon reduction targets. In Category 3, part of the carbon emissions were calculated based on express fuel. This year, we will examine the carbon emissions of our staff traveling by high-speed rail and plane. Besides, we are going to expand the use of video equipment, and some conferences and educational training will also be launched to promote remote connection to reduce the carbon emissions of business travel, which is also part of our efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy Consumption Intensity
Sustainable Resource Management
Water Resources Management

The Company has also set a water saving target, Continue to publicize water-saving measures to colleagues, and due to the purchase of a new headquarters building in 2022, the water consumption will increase, and due to the slowdown of the epidemic, the number of people and time working from home will be reduced, and the water consumption will increase by 86,200 degrees compared with 2021.

Note: The water consumption degrees are converted by referring to the average water price of Taiwan Water Supply Company over the years, and the water charge per degree is NT$ 13.27.
Waste Management

Wastes generated during the operational process of insurance enterprises are relatively simple and have a limited impact on the environment, because the types of waste are only livelihood waste and general resource recycling. Nevertheless, we are still committed to implementing the resource reuse policy in the process of operation to do the best in waste classification and resource recovery. We recycle the papers for reuse, collect the waste batteries centrally, entrust the qualified contractors to handle decoration wastes for disposal, and reuse the workplace potted plants. As for electronic scraps, we extend their useful lifetime or entrust the contractors for recycling and treatment, so as to produce the best possible result through disposing of the waster as properly as possible.
